Red Sox activate a starter from the IL to start Wednesday

Injuries have plagued the Boston Red Sox through the first month of their 2024 season, but things are finally starting to look up as players come off the injured list.

On Wednesday, the Red Sox are expected to activate starting pitcher Nick Pivetta and option reliever Naoyuki Uwasawa, according to Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.

Pivetta was placed on the injured list nearly a month ago due to a right elbow flexor strain after his second start of the year. In those two games, he allowed just one run and struck out 13 in 11 innings.

Uwasawa was called up from Triple-A just over a week ago and he played in two games, allowing one earned run on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts in four innings. He returns to Worcester, where he started three games earlier this year.

Pivetta is expected to start opposite former Red Sox Chris Sale in a key game on Wednesday.
